Originally published in 1881, this is the last of the three novels written by English nature writer Richard Jefferies. It follows the story of an impoverished artist named Aymer, who becomes engaged to Violet Waldron. However, their idyllic rural life is shattered by a gruesome murder. We are republishing this work with a brand new introductory biography on Jefferies, to help place this publication in context with his other works.
