Dad is back - and so is Max. In this, the second book of the series, Max's dad comes home on rest and recuperation. But he isn't all football and laughs as Max had expected and he ends up getting himself into all sorts of scrapes again while he comes to terms with his disappointment. Of course, he deals with everything in his usual humorous way - getting himself into yet more trouble at the same time. As with 'While Dad Was Away', Lynn has watched the children she works with and chatted with partners of soldiers to find out how their coming home on R and R affects the whole family. Once again, she has tackled the issues raised with humour and sensitivity. Lynn hopes that Max's story will help other children to cope with the problems they face when they have a parent who isn't always there and who has their own devils to deal with when they are. But, she says, it just as important people to simply enjoy a 'good read'.
