Trails to El Yunque
is a collection of short stories that LaVerne González wrote in the mid 20th century from her experiences with her husband Tony in Puerto Rico. The stories capture the full gamut of emotions, ranging from love and hate, joy and sorrow, insecurity and suffering, all an inescapable part of life's experience. The author writes from the perspective of an empathetic observer rather than one who was born into the culture.
LaVerne González thrived through adversity. She was raised during the depression in a single parent environment. In midlife, she completed her education and went on to become a university professor, quite an accomplishment. Throughout every challenge life posed, LaVerne demonstrated both brilliance and resilience. Her ability to tell stories was a lifelong gift. Her skills as a writer continued to blossom throughout her lifetime.
