Toby is a great dog - just about the best pet ever, except for one detail: Toby likes adventure! He always plans to come back home, but sometimes he gets in a little trouble. One day a door is left open a little too long, and off he runs just as fast as he can. Along the way he meets a nice couple who feed and bathe him and even let him stay the night, but in the morning, Toby is gone again. He then encounters a cranky old man who tries to teach Toby a lesson about eating his cat's food from his porch, and finally a young boy who finds Toby and brings him home to meet his family. Scared and lonely, and missing his family, Toby knows that he must return to his own home and family.
