1:1 Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ Λόγος, καὶ ὁ Λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν, καὶ Θεὸς ἦν ὁ Λόγος.
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 Αυτός ην εν αρχή προς τον Θεόν.
1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
1:3 Πάντα δι' αυτού εγένετο- και χωρίς αυτόν ουδέν εγένετο ό,τι εγένετο.
1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1:4 ἐν αὐτῷ ἦν ζωὴ καὶ ἡ ζωὴ ἦν τὸ φῶς τῶν ἀνθρώπων.
1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
1:5 Και το φως φέγγει εν τω σκότει, και το σκότος δεν το κατάλαβε.
1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
1:6 Ἦν ἄνδρας ἀπεσταλμένος ἀπό τόν Θεόν, ὄνομα Ἰωάννης.
1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
1:7 ὁ δὲ αὐτὸς ἦλθεν εἰς μαρτυρίαν, ἵνα μαρτυρήσῃ περὶ τοῦ φωτός, ἵνα πιστεύσωσιν πάντες δι' αὐτοῦ.
1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
1:8 Ὁ δὲ οὐκ ἦν αὐτὸς τὸ φῶς, ἀλλὰ ἐστάλθη ἵνα μαρτυρήσῃ περὶ τοῦ φῶτος.
1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
