I'm pretty sure I'm sitting in a pile of dirty socks. "It smells so bad in here!" whispered Rose. Ben couldn't see her in the dark, but glared as he replied, "Sh! Quiet! He might hear us." Rose retorted, "Uh, that's even louder than what I said -so shush yourself, Ben!" MaryMartha-Anne sat between them and as usual was the peacekeeper. "It's okay, you two. We just need to be patient and listen." She sat quietly, pondering her situation. How did she end up here? Why was she in the neighbors' closet with her two best friends? It was very exciting and also a little troubling. Her grandmother always said, 'to pray continually, like the Bible says.' This was a good time to start praying continually. So she whispered, "Dear God, please, help us." She whispered it over and over. She heard a noise and looked at Rose. They were both scared. Rose always says that homework only causes trouble. Rose was going to use this experience as a reminder, every single day of their lives. Of course Rose was right, homework did cause this trouble!
