With the aid of Tzychala, Keimas' soulless body has been possessed by Loi.
Loi is determined to kill Anama, his only child and patron of Manti. Empowered by consuming her light, he will gain the power to enter the House of the Living Sky, where his true form is held captive. He will free himself, becoming the last true god of Maengir. However, a fatal error was made when he bargained Keimas' soul to Tzychala, and betrayed him.
Tzychala, outraged at Loi's deception, begins to wonder who he really is. Undergoing a change of heart, he aims to break Keimas free, to set the godlike heir of Ephielipax against his divine brother.
Keimas' conscience over abandoning his wife and unborn child weigh heavily upon him, worse so when given a second chance which must not be wasted. With the other Kutu at his side, he must kill Loi. When that moment comes, he will be forced to choose once and for all whether his loyalty belongs with family, or with duty.
Nepiur and her caravan prepare for battle in Aes'bethil. For the first time, the Mantichaena will attempt to destroy a thuell. Nepiur will realize at last that she is ready to lead, though unprepared for a greater challenge: meeting her sister again.
Time is running out for the Nhi'Thaun as they continue to use their heirs to regain control of Maengir. They are failing, and their champions are finding their own paths.
Many Gal'tskhain stand ready to protect their world, but they may not be enough. Tzychala's release has broken a pact as old as time, signaling to creatures of the Far Edge that their machinations have failed, that Maengir has rebelled, and the only solution is extermination.
Thetrulengo grapples with this same conclusion, as well as her place in the coming conflict. As increasingly destructive forces amass around Maengir, she realizes she must intervene, or otherwise prepare herself for its end - to be alone again, for eternity.
