When the King's silver goes missing in the depths of the Scirwood in the winter of 1185, Royal Sheriff Thurstan Ælfsson is sent to investigate. He soon discovers that all in the shire forest is not as it seems. Between warring families bonded by bloodfeuds, jealous lovers and faceless bandits, he finds that even sheriffs become targets when faced with myths and romantic legends. The Sheriff of Jorvik is set in the alternate-history universe of Northland and Ængland, 120 years after Harald Hardrada of Norway conquered England, not William of Normandy. It is the second novel in David Haworth's Northland series.
