The Scorching Sun of Egypt: Zenith, the sequel of the Scorching Sun of Egypt: Sunrise, begins in the fifth year of the reign of pharaoh Akhenaten, the pharaoh who devoted himself to only one God: the Aten, and rejected the other Egyptian Gods. His religious policies are becoming more repressive and while focusing on his religion he is starting to neglect his duties. The Scorching Son of Egypt: Zenith is written from the perspective of five different characters: Ipi: a young priest of Amun, who becomes disillusioned with the Amun priesthood because of their lack of resistance against the pharaoh and who, due to a personal tragedy, eventually even starts to doubt the God himself.Aset: a servant and friend of the pharaoh's second wife Kiya, who would prefer to leave the pharaoh's new capital to return home and whose friendship with her mistress becomes strained.Penthu: the pharaoh's personal physician, who used to be a priest of Amun and is torn between loyalty to his God and his pharaoh and who witnesses the pharaoh during both his public and private life, during his moments of confidence and doubt.Meryra: the high priest of the Aten, who is completely devoted to the Aten and loyally supports the pharaoh in his religious revolution, being convinced that he acts in the best interest of his country and its people.Paneb: a tomb robber, who makes good use of the fact that the pharaoh moved the capital away from Thebes with its large necropolis. His sole intention is to plunder the tombs of wealthy Egyptians but he will have to deal with dissatisfaction in his own gang and to try to wrestle back his independence after he has got himself involved with a corrupt officer. These characters will be followed while trying to make it through the chaotic Amarna period, with some of them firmly choosing a side when a split starts to appear in the country between those in favour and those against the pharaoh, while others take advantage of the chaotic situation or are simply trying to survive.
