The idea for this book originated over the past fifteen years through an uncounted number of business owner meetings, namely, to provide intriguing insights into the many secrets of successfully selling a business. Without question, successful business owners know a lot about managing their business but selling a business is for most businesses owners a “first” and one time event. Moreover, selling a business is essentially the last chance to capture a significant financial gain, and thus, it is important to ensure that this event is professionally executed in a most profitable fashion. However, this is not another ‘Do-It-Yourself’ handbook. As a matter of fact, it is my strong belief that business owners should have highly qualified professional M&A advisors, in conjunction with transaction attorneys and CPAs, facilitating the sale of their businesses – very much as few business owners would attempt to present themselves in court litigation or file their own tax returns. More importantly, no two transactions are alike. Consequently, this book cannot serve as “blue print” for specific transactions, rather, it provides many specific hints and cautionary tales that are usually not shared by professionals. As a matter of fact, there is a multitude of inside tips that are usually not obvious to even a successful business owner.
