Lutfi Al-Nufoury's second poetry collection touches oneverything from death and parenthood to sectarianismand belonging. As well as the very human experienceof losing a loved one, these poems capture the unique, often disorienting, experience of Muslims living in apost-modern world. There is a longing and a reachingout for something otherworldly-for beauty, tradition, and meaning-and at the same time, a reconciliationwith what is.In Al-Nufoury, readers will find a lyrical voice that is atonce tender and tough, meditative and decisive, upliftingand grounding. Above all else, The Mercy of Night remindsus of the openings and blessings that are hiddenin our darkest moments.
