The King of Avalon and his subjects must face a new adversary. Sir Lancelot and the Knights of the Round Table have been vanquished; King Arthur has been redeemed; and Avalon's long civil war has ended. Avalon's new king, twelve-year-old Romeo Stevens, has reclaimed the throne he formerly abdicated and has acquired Excalibur: a magical sword once owned by King Arthur. Romeo is also viewed as a hero throughout the kingdom. Everyone who doubted his leadership, courage, and his ability to defeat the Round Table knights is in his debt. Romeo's hours of unicorn riding, dueling, and relaxing with his friends are cut short when a pair of evil wizards from the Colloquia Kingdom-Nora Whitaker, and Romeo and Juliet's older brother, Macbeth Stevens-attack Avalon Castle, seeking to destroy him. After narrowly escaping the dangerous duo with his life, Romeo and his comrades embark upon a perilous quest to obtain the Twelve Crowns: powerful magic items that are the only hope they have of bringing down Colloquia and its wicked king, Othello, whose unquenchable thirst for vengeance against Romeo and Avalon knows no bounds.
