THE GRAVEYARD ELEGY MEMORIES OF ABILENE was inspired by cemetery visits and the poem “Elegy in a Country Courtyard” by Thomas Gray. It is largely a photographic journey of Abilene in four parts: Part I. The Protestant Cemetery, Early Abilene History, Personal Memories Part II. The Catholic Cemetery and Growing Up Memories Part III. Select Abilene Businesses and Victorians, Memories Part IV. Farming. Memories and Changes The author borrows at times from his book “The Farm,” Trafford Publishing, 2010. Although this book includes small vignettes of Abilene History, persons, places and events, its essence is Curran’s recollection of growing up in the 1940s and 1950s.
