Barnes & Noble The Forgotten Songs of the Newfoundland Outports: As Taken from Kenneth Peacock's Newfoundland Field Collection, 1951-1961 at Hamilton Place in Chattanooga, TN
Between 1951 and 1961, musician Kennett Peacock (1922-2000) collected 766 songs and melodies from singers in thirty-eight communities, and two-thirds of this material was published in Songs of the Newfoundland Outports (1965). The Forgotten Songs of the Newfoundland Outports brings to light the best of the material which Peacock had omitted from his original publication. The collection has been prepared by drawing on Peacock's original music, textual and field recordings. With additional British and American broadsides, music hall and vaudeville material and more, this far-ranging, eclectic and richly illustrated work serves as an invaluable link between Peacock's historic field recordings and the present day.
