When Dante, a demon born on earth, was eight, his parents died in World War III. Eighty years after the war, Dante is contracted by Death to do a job in the fourth century B.C. to alter the planet's timeline in order to save lives lost to the war He spends forty years in the past, destroying cities and rampaging across Earth. The story begins in Europe during the reign of the Greek Empire where Dante is seen walking through a burning city, chased by a vengeful angel. After a brief fight, the two lose their memories and are sent on the hunt to kill the demon who has been attacking innocent people. Eventually, they regain their lost memories and face each other in combat once more.
Back in his own time period, Dante's parents are still dead, but the world is in much better shape than when he left it, all because of his deeds. He did, however, make an enemy of an angel while he was working in the past. This angel holds a grudge spanning millennia, and seeks to destroy this rogue demon Victor, the angel, finds Dante after millennia of searching and sends him a cryptic message. Dante ignores the message for the most part and decides to go on a journey to explore his newly healed home.
While traveling, Dante finds a peaceful town in Pennsylvania and decides to settle down. It seems a woman has caught his eye. The trouble is this woman is currently the best friend of the angel hunting Dante. The demon knows nothing of the angel's proximity. Yet another person from Dante's travels becomes jealous of this new romance and vows to get rid of the new woman however she can.
While Dante is gone from Earth on a mission to learn about his true heritage as the heir to the throne of Hell, the angel moves in to disrupt everything the demon has built. All Hell breaks loose once Dante finds out what Victor has done in his absence, and it comes to a head with innocent humans getting caught in the middle.
