With this series of cartoons, Prabhakar Bhosale has captured with humor and pathos the fears, stresses, dishonesty, bravery and foibles of Administrators, Staff, Regulation enforcement personnel and Residents living and working in minimally funded facilities often more focused on getting by than on creating communities of care for residents. The cartoons are based on astute observations by Mr. Bhosale as he visited nursing home facilities as an architect inspecting for building compliance with the regulations.
The cartoons cry for a change from merely operating facilities to serving residents well. They cry out for training, mentoring and oversight for board members, administrators and staff, and if necessary, dismissal of anyone that is cruel, vindictive, uncaring and/or unreasonable toward fellow employees or residents. They cry out for the elimination of conflicting regulations from the various oversight agencies. They cry out for reasonable funding levels. They cry out for the elimination of an environment in which residents are unwilling to raise issues of concern because of fear of retribution.
In short, they cry out for the elimination of violence and cultivation of an environment in which dignity in the lives of everyone involved in nursing home operation is supported.
