Conal Benjamin, is stuck in a mundane and lonely existence from which there seems no escape. He rarely leaves the house except to show up to his job as a mechanic, and his only friend is an elderly woman who keeps tabs on her loner neighbor. Conal's life picks up momentum when he is unexpectedly reunited with an old love, but things take a dark turn before he's even had a chance to make a move. Through a fluke of physics and nature during an experiment-gone-wrong at a big science convention, Conal and the woman he has spent years pining over are sent hurling through time, and land during Jack the Ripper's reign of terror, Conal confronts mortality, loss and the seedy underbelly of history as he desperately tries to get himself and his would-be girlfriend back to the present alive.
While trying to find a way home, Conal becomes embroiled in the case when he is recruited to act as a detective with Scotland Yard. A band of street-tough but kind-hearted prostitutes take in Abby, his love interest, leading her straight into Jack the Ripper's path. Conal races the clock struggling to find a way to get himself and Abby home before she comes face-to-face with one of the world's most notorious serial killers, the two grapple with their growing but complicated feelings for one another.
