A drain hole in the top of the canopy is a small detail with an outsized effect. Water that would otherwise pool in the center of the roof, stretch the fabric and eventually come down all at once instead runs straight through, which is the difference between a canopy that survives a rainy afternoon and one that sags out of shape by the end of it. The rest of the design is deliberately straightforward. A sturdy steel frame ensures the canopy stands stable, the pop-up structure makes installation easy without tools, and adjustable height offers three positions of 7.5-ft, 7.8-ft and 8.2-ft over an 8-ft by 8-ft footprint that gives enough shade for outdoor activities without demanding a large flat area. Stability on site comes from stakes, rope and sandbags used together, with 8 stakes and 4 sandbags packed in the box, and each sandbag measures 47-in by 42-in when laid flat. Transport is handled by a wheeled bag rather than a shoulder strap, so the 29-lb canopy rolls to and from the vehicle, and a side pocket on that bag stores small accessories like spare stakes so nothing goes missing between outings.
