Four wood boards on a steel pipe frame climb 59 in up the wall and give back the floor a bookcase would have taken. Each 25.5-in by 7.5-in board sits 12 in below the next, room enough for standing paperbacks, potted herbs, spice jars, or a row of framed photos. The boards measure 0.6 in thick and are rated to 45 lbs apiece, 180 lbs across the whole unit, so this is a load-bearing shelf rather than a decorative ledge. Boards and metal frame ship together, and the natural wood grain suits a rustic kitchen or a reading wall.
