Gabrielle and Duncan have finally made it to Sanctuary after a year of enduring the Wastelands and its dangers. Now they wait in an endless line to gain entrance to a giant city-state called Gotham. Along the way, they will find new friends. When they are allowed to enter the city, the couple settles in the borough of Southpoint.
Caitlyn has plans for Gabrielle, and Duncan is in the way. She will conspire to break up the young couple, allowing her to have Gabrielle under her control. When Gabrielle flourishes, Duncan is treated as a novelty―an intelligent man from the Wastelands. Duncan, seeing the dark side of Gotham, wishes to leave. She refuses, and Caitlyn casts him down to the depths of the Underground. Duncan must now find a way to climb himself out of the depths of the Underground and rejoin Gabrielle. Caitlyn will be waiting for him.
