Maria and her mother lived in an apartment in Brooklyn. The locket began its mystical journey in St Petersburg, Russia in 1904 when the Czar's wife gave birth for the last time. The czar's daughter, Olga took a picture of her father and mother and the twin boys that were just born. She placed the picture in a locket. The czar and his wife gave one of the babies and the locket to Sofya to hide and care for until the threat from the Soviets was over. They knew their lives were in mortal danger.
