Longacre, was minted from copper from 1859 to 1909. It was designed by James B. Longacre. The Lincoln steel penny was only minted for 1 year in 1943 due to the shortage of copper during World War II and is the only regular issue United States coin that can be picked up with a magnet. The Liberty nickel, designed by Charles Barber and comprised of copper nickel was minted from 1883 to 1912 and is sometimes referred to as the V nickel due to the Roman numeral 5 on the reverse of the coin. The Buffalo nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser, was first released in March, 1913 and was composed of copper and nickel.
