The Indian Cent was minted from 1859 to 1909 and was designed by James B. Longacre. The copper coin features Lady Liberty dressed in a Native American Headdress. The Liberty Nickel minted from 1883 to 1913 was designed by Charles E. Barber. The Liberty Nickel was first designed without the words CENTS in 1883 but some were then gold plated and passed for $5. Later in 1883 the word CENTS was added to stop the fraudulent practice. The Liberty Nickel features Lady Liberty’s profile surrounded by stars. The United States first commemorative coin, the Columbian Exposition Half Dollar was minted from 1892 to 1893 for the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago held in 1893. The Classic Silver Commemorative Coin was designed by Olin Lewis Warner. The obverse features a profile of Columbus and the reverse shows the Santa Maria above two hemispheres.
