Reversible computing refers to the computation that takes place in steps that are time reversible. Within reversible computing, if a logic gate changes an input X into an output Y, then there is an inverse operation which reverses this step. It is a “backwarddeterministic” method, where every computational configuration has exactly one preceding configuration. It deals with problems related to carrying out computation in an efficient manner in reversible computing models. It also deals with the implementation of such systems in reversible physical systems. Reversible computation has a number of applications in various areas including coding or decoding, testing and verification, reversible specification formalisms, low power design, reversible algorithms, database recovery, debugging, discrete event simulation, etc. This book explores all the important aspects of reversible computing in the present day scenario.
