Alan Richter - host of the highly popular, nationally syndicated nightly radio program, The Richter Scale - finds himself enjoying the broadcast media's version of being locked overnight in a candy shop: doing one's program from 'Radio Row' during Super Bowl week. This year's championship contest takes place in Richter's hometown of Houston, Texas and juxtaposes excitement with anxiety for the media star. The joy and pain of interacting with sports heroes and familial issues gets compounded by the stealth-like murder of bombastic radio personality Tank Turner in the middle of the cavernous George R. Brown Convention Center. Half the world press - in attendance for 'Media Day' - wonders: Who did it and how did it happen under our collective noses? The suspects in Turner's murder are as colorful as they are plentiful. Super Bowl quarterback Colt Dunniger retaliated with his fists in front of half the world's press when Turner accused him of being involved in a point-shaving scheme. The victim constantly treated his producer, Colby Bierman, badly and public humiliation isn't the worst motive for murder. Trish Malloy, the attractive sideline reporter for SportsEastTV was being blackmailed by her former lover. Randall Atkins was the victim's teammate in college until Turner was convicted of sexual assault. And a member of the NFL Security team, Liam Flaherty, needs to explain the mysterious envelope Turner passed him the night before he was murdered. Detective Summer Reynolds would rather stick a red-hot needle in her eye than deal with the politically charged case forced upon her by the Mayor's Office and her own superiors. Botched from the beginning, the beautiful detective is left with nowhere to begin her investigation. Richter steps up to place Reynolds squarely on the path to several motivated suspects, one contrived confrontation, a closed-case reopened, an unintended, unexpected romance with a twist no one sees coming.
