This book was written from experience, from someone who knows what it feels like to hide beneath layers. The book reflects on the idea that we all have hidden brokenness, mistakes, unwanted choices. We take all of these things from our past and "shove" them into a carpetbag; we throw them under a fancy rug to keep others from seeing who we really are. We are afraid that if those closest to us, or even in society, got a hold of our true self, then we fall from the social ladder. Layers tend to act like a bandaid used to cover up your weak spots, your blemishes. In reality, are we being real with ourselves? Probably not. We believe that we are, but hide. Do we hide from abuse, disease, financial disaster, marital destruction, even God himself? Most definitely. This book is your story, my story, everyone's story. The things in this book are real things you and I are currently struggling with. This book contains the things in ours lives. It contains stories we can all relate too. God is the author of this story; He alone will make you whole, make you real with yourself and Him!
