In 2037, a new America exists. No longer is the primary purpose of an automobile for travel. Cashiers and currency are automated. Church gatherings are limited to less than ten people. And child-rearing has become less popular. Parts of the world have grown sterile, in Dr. Allison Starr's opinion. Then, Allison meets five-year-old Anastasia Elpis at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. That's where forty-two-year-old Allison, a cardiovascular anesthesiologist, witnesses a series of events that cause her to rethink the possibility of reincarnation.
Coincidentally, Allison falls for Dr. Jeffery Linus, a renowned molecular biologist who believes in reincarnation. Even so, Allison works day-in and day-out with Dr. Ben Gerhart, Swedish Medicals' Chief of Cardiology, a man who spends his time lecturing about how the survival of a soul outside the human body is scientifically impossible. Remaining neutral but in scientific conflict, Allison leaves on a five-week journey. While driving a hemp-operated and government-approved automobile, Starr hopes the solo trip will clear her mind. But, in a hidden corner of Death Valley, Allison witnesses something that shakes her core. Even NASA is interested in Allison's unearthing. Will destiny reward the good doctor with a once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity at NASA, or does Starr have an even greater calling?
