Something is wrong with Phoenix Ashe. Everybody knows it. For months, she has fallen asleep in class and sometimes disappears in one place then reappears in another. No one at the new school has even seen her dad. Even Phoenix doesn't know entirely what's happening to her. She knows she sleeps all day because she's fighting off wraiths at night. But how she appears in different surroundings is a mystery to Phoenix too.
Now Phoenix awakens in an outfield, and an otherworldly cyclone sucks her up and deposits her onto a world not unlike Earth. Here, there's no such thing as technology. Only sorce spells. There are Diaspora schools which teach sorce spells. And learning your sorce is the most important task for every student.
Usually, familial sorce powers are handed down. Phoenix doesn't have much in the way of family to begin with and not a one of them lives on this world. Identifying her sorce power is just one challenge of many. Not every person in every Diaspora wants Phoenix to find her familial sorce. Something else, entirely, seems to be searching for a traveler from Earth in order to destroy them. She must identify her sorce power and strengthen her sorce spell to get home. She needs to get back to sleeping all day and fighting wraiths at night. For who knows how long her dad can survive the nightly attacks without her?
