It answers admirably in suppurative inflammation of the pleura, and in cases of localised purulent peritonitis, as met with in the pelvis and about the caecum, and in the tuberculous variety, but in the form of perito nitis now under consideration it is comparatively useless.It may be also incidentally mentioned that the mortality attending the Operation for strangulated hernia, does not appear - except in connection with umbilical hernia - to have been greatly improved since the introduction of aseptic mea sures in surgery.
