Silicon (Si) is a metalloid belonging to the carbon family (Group 14). It is a hard tetravalent metalloid and has a blue-grey metallic sheen. Silicon is a brittle crystalline solid having properties of a semiconductor. Organometallic compounds that contain carbon–silicon bonds are called organosilicon compounds.
