Canned from her high-powered Los Angeles law career after scandal forces her resignation, Kendra Ballantyne is suddenly rebuilding her life from the ground up. Now renting out her Hollywood home and living in the maid’s quarters, she’s taken an unexpected new job as a freelance pet-sitter—far from courtroom drama, or so she thinks. Kendra knows her tenants are breaking the rules by keeping illegal ferrets, but she never imagines they could be linked to something criminal. That is, until she discovers a corpse in the renters’ den—and all the evidence seems to point to the playful (and very furry) suspects. With suspicion closing in and danger mounting, Kendra is pulled into a twisting murder mystery where she must act as an amateur sleuth to clear the animals’ names and uncover a killer hiding in plain sight. Perfect for fans of cozy mysteries, pet-themed mysteries, humorous whodunits, and women sleuths with a legal edge, this fast-paced story delivers quirky pets, sharp twists, and plenty of suspense.
