In 2014, January 14th, precisely Nigeria as country marked the centenary of its amalgamation, of the Southern and Northern protectorates that eventually gave birth to the present day nation-state, Nigeria. As a former colony of the British empire, the country has existed together for a century after the forced marriage of convenience in 1914 by then Governor-General of the British Colony Lord Laugard, half of those turbulent years have been spent as an independent, sovereign nation, having gained independence, and self-rule in,1960 and then becoming a republic three years later. As the country turns 100 years of nationhood, it is ironical that instead of celebrating the birth of a great nation with a shared destiny, there are latent fears that the "mistake of 1914" may manifest in the breakup of the country in 2015 a year after the centenary celebration. Will Nigeria cease to exist in 2015 as predicted? Will the country implode and eventually be Balkanized to reflect the years after amalgamation? Can the country continue to exist under the present miss-guided federal structure. The book has put together a brief historical collection of key narratives of our native and nationalist political personalities that has paid human price to help shape the countries political history and landscape.
