When Netta McKippet's father gets a new job, the family is forced to move to a different town. Unhappy about the move, Netta runs away into the woods. There she enters a magical forest where the animals love to read books just as much as she does. On the second day in the magical forest she befriends a fox who offers to help her find her way back home, and the two set out across the forest in search of Netta's homeland. Along the way the meet a curious cast of characters, including a scarlet bird, an ancient water opossum, and a terrifying creature known as the Wallhockler. In the end, Netta must contend with the fizzy pop guzzling Marmot King, who wants nothing more than to get his paws on her mother's homemade pop recipe. Can Netta escape the clutches of the Marmot King and find her way back home?
