When Doloris Victor's childhood friend is killed in the line of duty fighting a fire in the nearby synagogue, memories of the past intertwine with her concerns for her husband who is serving as a military surgeon in the Middle East. While the close-knit community of her hometown of Waterview, its serenity and predictability is shaken by the loss of two firefighters and the damage done to the temple, Doloris feels more and more conflict within and struggles to overcome it as she looks forward to her husband's return with hope tinged with trepidation.
