Twins Max and Connor Hebert thought they had normal lives , aside from the fact that they had lost their parents at age two and had since been living with their Uncle Sammy. They went to school, played football, and just enjoyed themselves in southern Louisiana. Neither one of them could have expected where their lives were headed. The almost fearful reaction of their lifelong friend Sophie to some strangers in town immediately prompted hushed meetings with her grandfather and Uncle Sammy. Uncle Sammy suddenly announced that they needed to go to bed early to be well rested for a fishing trip tomorrow. Following his cryptic instructions for finding a secret fishing location, Max and Connor instead discover seemingly magical crystals that hover in front of them and lead them deep into the Louisiana swampland to a huge old cypress stump that reveals a secret that had been hidden from them since their birth.
