After leaving her privileged family in her late teens, Lola bravely and perhaps naively steps into a new life in Amsterdam. Bolstered by her friend, the priest, she meets Walter, who takes her under his wing to become his muse; and for a while, Lola flourishes under his tutelage. When his overbearing behavior becomes too much, Lola struts off to find new lovers, new venues. Eventually, her role as muse bores her, and she searches for something to call her own. On a serendipitous trip to the Louisiana Museum in Denmark, she finds an unlikely muse and begins to write.
Tucked away in wintry Copenhagen months later, Lola brings forth a treasure trove of words, blending the real and unreal, the mystical and earthy, into a fulcrum of whimsy and wonder.
