This wonderful book, "Lil Phyllis Loves to Laff," is about a school aged girl with a loud and infectious laugh. The main character was inspired by the author's mother who Aderemi describes as being well known for her laughter. The story is loosely based on the antics of children he has had the honor of working with for a decade. Aderemi, whom the students call Mr. Ade, believes his book would not exist if not for the encouragement of one dedicated fourth grade teacher and a hand full of her bright students. These students were among the first to hear "Lil Phyllis Loves to Laff" in a reading of the story and followed the book's progress from the beginning.Aderemi recalls, "...At the end of the 2012 school year, I read to the students from the first “Dummy” I handmade. When the students returned to school from their summer vacation, they asked me, ‘How's the book?’-They still remembered it! I knew then, I must complete what I had started."A copy of his little book has made it all the way to the White House to the First Lady Michelle Obama.A copy signed by the entire staff of Luther Burbank Elementary School was given to her by the school principal along with student composed letters. At that time Burbank Elementary was being honored for being a new inductee to the President's Committee of Arts and Humanities , called Turn Around Arts Program.
