Life of Spike follows Spike as he grows from a caterpillar to a chrysalis and from a chrysalis to a butterfly ready to take flight. But this isn't a journey without surprises. First, Spike and his friends are captured, but they are fed and cared for in the protection of a glass jar. As they grow bigger, they shed their skin and grow a chrysalis. And then something remarkable happens: their caterpillar bodies transform into butterflies. With wings! Spike may be frightened by the sudden changes, but he's also excited about what awaits. But will he be brave enough to take flight, leaving behind the only existence he's known? Spike's is a true story about becoming. About finding gratitude for unexpected turns of events. And about the magic of leaping into the unknown.Told by Darlene Dunevant, Spike's benevolent captor and author, this book is both a heart-warming story about growing up and embracing big changes while also providing insightful facts about the lifecycle of the butterfly. It includes both colorful illustrations and actual photos of Spike and his friends as they grow from caterpillars into beautiful butterflies ready to leave the comfort of home.
