Learning about the lives of historical figures is a much more interesting way to learn the history than to just learn the times and dates, important as those two things may be. There is much more to contemplate when you have a sense of the person behind the deed. A person like you or me, with their own sense of purpose and set of values that influenced how they made their decisions that we are reading about hundreds of years later.
