For the first time, the three female family members closest to Otto von Bismarck jointly take the center stage of historical research. Andrea Hopp's book about Johanna, Marie and Marguerite von Bismarck sheds light on previously neglected power structures within the family. As differently as the three dealt with the gender roles assigned to them, they were united in their elitist self-image, which they shared with their husband, father and father-in-law. In particular as emotional caregivers they influenced both the politician, subsequent family generations and the way the chancellor's political legacy was preserved.
