This book examines the fashion by which the Great Northern Railway used the image of the plains—dwelling Blackfeet Native Americans to sell the romantic as well as western image of the relationship the Blackfeet had with the mountainous environment of Glacier National Park, Montana. Examples of artwork and photography sponsored by the Great Northern are presented that evoke a harmonious relationship between Glacier Park and the Blackfeet, all to entice visitors to use the Great Northern Railway to get to the park and use the tourist facilities there built by the Great Northern. Methods by which the Great Northern exploited the Blackfeet presence—both in the park and across the country—to attract visitors to Glacier National Park are also examined.
