Almost three-quarters of a million tourists flock to Salem, Massachusetts each year, and most of them choose this destination because of the town's supernatural past. While the Salem Witch Trials at the end of the 17th century ensured that interest in the paranormal would be forever tied to the region, the people of Salem continued to be fascinated by the supernatural throughout the 18th and 19th centuries as well. This book is a follow-up to Ghosts of Salem, Volume 1, and it collects another twenty-two poems and articles taken from newspapers published in Salem during the 18th and 19th centuries. They contain mysterious accounts of sea serpents, ghostly visitations, and unexplained phenomena. Many of these tales are humorous, as real-world explanations were later discovered for these supernatural events. Also scattered through these newspapers were creative poetry and prose on ghostly topics. Though many of the stories do not take place in Salem, as the newspapers had borrowed the accounts from elsewhere, they do provide a glimpse into what the residents of Salem were reading on the topic of the supernatural.
