Since helping defeat Dragnaught's hostile coup attempt, life on Gwindo has been fairly quiet for Rame. With the archons busy investigating a massive Yinang dismandelment, Rame focuses on improving her elementary fractal skills. Accepting the opportunity to train with other clerics, she experiences a cold reception due to her declinial status.
The situation deteriorates even further when the archons receive a challenge from the bitter leader of another race. Representing the archons, Rame accepts the challenge, pitting her against a mind-bending adversary. In dealing with this menacing new foe, Rame discovers a possible connection between a key source of galactic sultra and the abducted humans from Earth.
