Someone murdered two people on a rural side road. One of them was a cop.
It was something Ontario Provincial Police Constable Terry Maynard had done a hundred times before in his career-pull a car over for speeding on a rural side road, issue a ticket, and move on with his day.
This time, however, it was different. Someone shot him dead while he sat in his cruiser writing up notes after the traffic stop. And when investigators find a second victim behind the house across the road, OPP Detective Inspector Ellie March must decide who was the intended victim and who was collateral damage-the provincial constable or Dorothy Kerr, a reporter for the local freebie newspaper.
As Detective Constable Kevin Walker joins the investigative team hunting for the killer, his family struggles to cope with the stress caused by the murder of one of Kevin's co-workers. He and the other detectives must find a way to explain to their families that despite the danger, policing is not just their job-it's who they are.
