Offers a far-reaching survey of the latest trends in art and design by twenty-eight faculty members of the art department of the State University of New York at New Paltz.
This catalogue was published by the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz in conjunction with the exhibition
Fields of Vision: Work by SUNY New Paltz Art Faculty
, curated by Carl Van Brunt. The participating artists teach courses in printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, ceramics, metals, art education, and basic foundation courses at New Paltz. They are also professional artists and designers who exhibit their work in major museums and galleries throughout the world. Born in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and across the United States, these professionals collectively bring a wealth of experience and perspectives to art and art education. The fully illustrated catalogue was designed by Anne Galperin and features texts by curator Carl Van Brunt and Sara J. Pasti, Mary Hafeli, and Anne Galperin.
In our postmodern society, the art world is both more connected and more fragmented than ever before. New York City, once the capital of that world, is now just one of a network of regional centers spanning the globe. And close-up, contemporary practices appear to be a mash-up of disparate concepts, political agendas, media, and styles.
