This United States Army publication, Field Manual FM 3-84 Legal Support to Operations September 2023, is the Army's manual for operational legal doctrine. This manual provides authoritative doctrine and practical guidance for commanders, judge advocates, legal administrators, paralegal Soldiers, and Department of the Army Civilian legal personnel across the range of military operations, during competition below conflict, crisis, and armed conflict. It outlines how the Judge Advocate General's Corps is organized in accordance with the Army's force design. It also discusses the delivery of legal support to the force. The principal audience for FM 3-84 is all members of the profession of arms. Commanders and staffs of Army headquarters serving as a joint task force or multinational headquarters or serving as Army forces in support of joint or multinational forces, as well as individually assigned or attached JAG Corps personnel. Trainers and educators throughout the Army also use this publication.
