In the year 2288, Desiree, a young woman living in a post-nuclear war world, searches for a sense of belonging. She works for a museum near the ruins of what was once Chicago. The post-nuclear world is made up of three groups: the dome dwellers, the Rebels, and the Others. The Others have invented a time-traveling device to gain control of the world. Unforeseen events lead Desiree to acquire an Ether device and use it to save her life and travel back to 1888 Arizona, where she finds love and a way to stop the Others' world-dominating plans.
