When two men break into his home in the middle of the night, Rick Dyer is forced to defend his family with deadly force. He survives, but his young son is severely injured, and Rick blames himself. Nonetheless, his story goes viral, and Rick becomes a local celebrity. But when an ambitious news reporter and a corrupt detective begin to distort his story for their own ends, he finds himself in a world that that he can't understand, surrounded by forces which seem intent on ruining his life.
