Years have passed since the Ilemart War, during which Thomas Welton became a hero and a living legend. The Dragon Guardian apprentice had played a vital part in Arstan's victory over the Ilemite Empire, training an elite group of soldiers whose fighting techniques were later adopted by much of the kingdom's army, helping to kill two of three enemy generals and finally killing the final one alone. All while he was barely a teenager.
But that was only what made him a hero. The reason he was a legend was simple. He was a shapeshifter. The only shapeshifter outside of legends. There were others who had complicated spells to change form, just as Tom had been training to do before he discovered was a natural shapeshifter.
But Tom now faces a new challenge. He is in his final year of his training and now he needs to stay six months without anyone discovering his identity before he can complete his training. But the island he goes to to complete his task hides secrets.
The Doorway of Pontacit leads to a strange new land that could bring Arstan untold wealth. It will be hard to conceal the Doorway from Arstan's greedy neighbors for long, though. The strange land may prove to be more than even a shapeshifter can handle alone.
