The author has endeavored to present the salient points in the etiology, pathology, symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of diseases of the lungs in as brief and practical a manner as possible. Speculative and unimportant theories have been avoided, while practical and clinical facts have been presented. Special attention has been devoted to the subject of treatment, general management of the case and the indication for the various remedies, the latter being presented in the order of their importance as observed by the author. Under differential diagnosis, tables have been prepared to render the important differentiating points perceptible at a glance. The primary object of the work has been a presentation of those facts that are of service in the recognition and relief of pulmonary diseases. The growing importance of these topics, as a result of the increase in pulmonary affections, suggests the need of a more thorough knowledge of the various diseases to which these organs are liable, and this work is presented to the profession in the hope that it may stimulate a more thorough investigation of these subjects. 31 Washington Street, Chicago
